Mission Statement Goals and Objectives · To establish for children a safe, informative, and interactive website; · To endorse the efforts of parents and educators world-wide; · To emphasize the importance of safety on the Internet; · To engender within children an awareness of the world around them; · To empower students to thoughtfully express their opinions about the world; · To encourage students to participate proactively in their education; · To engage children with content indicative of their skill-level; · To expand upon the foundation created by parents and educators at home and school; · To enhance the comprehension, composition and creative skills of all involved. Our History Kidsnewsroom.org was started by a small group of parents concerned about the internet's impact on children, yet excited at the vast educational possibilities it presented. With the continued growth of technology and the Internet in 1999, these parents expected that there would be an explosion of wonderful Web sites for children. However, the quality of site that they had in mind simply didn't exist. So, they developed their own--the site that became known as Kidsnewsroom.org. With the help of other individuals dedicated to education, Kidsnewsroom began posting weekly news issues on October 2, 1999. Children worldwide visited the site to read articles, and Kidsnewsroom soon became recognized as a place with unprecendented opportunities for learning. Teachers contacted Kidsnewsroom to let them know how many of their students were using Kidsnewsroom's content for "current events" submissions at their schools. Kids sent in e-mails giving their opinions on what they had just read. PTAs endorsed the site as a valuable tool for both teachers and students. Homeschoolers used the site as a reading comprehension tool. Young gamers began to find fun in educational activities that involved more than just hand-eye coordination; they looked forward to weekly online quizzes and crossword puzzles, too. Kidsnewsroom quickly became the fun, safe and educational Internet resource that it was intended to be.
This year, Kidsnewsroom.org is delighted to partner with various sponsors. Each Kidsnewsroom.org sponsor passes a kid-safe screening test, to insure your child's continued safety while surfing our internet site. Among our sponsors' various undertakings, community involvement ranks high; indeed, many of our sponsors give back to the community in various different ways--such as sponsoring an educational resource site, just like Kidsnewsroom.org.
