A. I work in Strathroy, Ontario, in Canada.

Q. What type of company do you work for?
A. I work for the Ontario Provincial Police.

Q. What is your job title?
A. I'm called a Provincial Constable.

Q. At what times does your work day begin and end?
A. My shift begins at 6:00 am and ends at 6:00 pm on day shift. When I work night shift, my day begins at 6:00 pm and ends at 6:00 the next morning.

Q. How many days per week do you work?
A. My schedule consists of working four days in a row, then I have four days off. The first two work days are day shifts, and the second two work days are night shifts.

Q. What kind of clothes do you wear to work?
A. I wear a police uniform every day.

Q. Who do you work with?
A. Sometimes I work by myself, but when other officers need help, we work as a team.

Q. Tell us about your education and how it has prepared you for this job.
A. I have a college degree in general arts and science. My degree has nothing to do with the career that I chose, but I did many extra things to prepare myself for policing.

Q. What should a kid do NOW to prepare for your kind of job in the future?
A. As a young person, you should study someone you would like to be like. You must act like that person. You also must take part in things that will help you with your career.

Q. Do you have any other advice for kids who are thinking about having your type of career?
A. Stay out of trouble, stay in school, and always treat people with respect.

Q. What skills or subjects are important to your job?
A. All subjects are important to policing. Kids should work at math, physical fitness, spelling, speech, communication, art, history, social skills, geography, computers and more.

Q. What are the top ten things that you normally do at work each day?
A.First thing, we get organized, share stories and make a game plan for the shift. I make sure I'm prepared for the day, but every day is different, so I don't usually do the same ten things each day.

Thanks, Ian! It was nice getting to know you!
