Trade
Ghana had several products of
industry, including gold, salt, slaves, honey,
jewelry, tools, metal and leather goods, rare
birds, livestock, horses, and special cloth called
Chiguyiya. Gold and salt were mined and were
the most sought after items. The mines were
scattered to the south. In the city of Koumbi
the market people traded and sold cattle, honey,
dates, cloth, ivory, and ebony. In other
shops at the market local farmers sold their
produce and craftspeople sold their wares.
Most traders were
Muslim.
