Social Levels

The first evidence of African social levels were found in burial mounds from Mali.  There were obviously richer people than others.  Griots were some of the most respected people in early Africa.  After his trip to Mecca, Mansa Musa invited Arab scholars to come teach at learning centers in Mali.
The government consisted of the king, his wife and sons, governors, scores of judges, heads of state and other officials.  The king depended on these people to help make decisions about how much gold to send to the caravans, to how much land a farmer would recieve.  The Great Three would have never come to power if it weren't for the competent rulers they had.

Different levels of community

Clans

To show clan affiliations people scarred their faces.  These clans were like indian tribes, not like gangs of today.

Kings

The king came first, then the queen,  then governors, then judges, then last came the farmers, and peasants.
