70's Fads

There were many fads in the 1970's. Pet rocks were big in the 1970's. The would come in little boxes with little peace of straw in the bottom of the box.
Platform shoes were also very large in the 70's. People would wear them mostly to parties, but others would wear them everywhere. Jogging suits were also a big trend in fashion.
Later, people started to worry about their weight.  For some reason,  jogging became a popular sport, so jogging suits became popular not just for running and working out, but for fashion too.
"Earth Day" was also a   popular fad in the 70’s.  This was celebrated on April 22.  Earth Day was a day when people did such things as wear gas masks to demonstrate their concern about pollution and the wish they had for a cleaner Earth.

Telephone Booth Stuffing

One of the most well known fads of all time was the art of  "Telephone Booth Stuffing". In taking part in this event, several college students would squeeze themselves into a telephone booth, one after another, until no one else could fit in. The more people who could fit in, the better, and universities everywhere saw students skipping class in order to try and devise a plan to set a record. The fad is often associated with college students from the West Coast of the United States but, it was started in South Africa. Twenty-five students there were able to pack in a booth and announce that they had set a world record in doing so. Soon students in England, Canada and the United States were attempting to beat that mark. Some students in England went on diets as a method to achieve the highest efficiency for stuffing. When they found themselves unable to pile more and more friends into the booths, they began challenging other universities' "credibility" because of supposed violations of "rules" which should have been adhered to. Some claimed all participants must keep their entire bodies within the booth, while others specified that someone inside was required to place a call. The fad died out within a year in the United States (1959) but was reincarnated in the form of "Volkswagen Stuffing" a few years later. Hey, wanna see a video of this? Check this video out.

Entertainment

There was many different types of entertainment in the 1970's.   Some of the entertainment was, of course, television.  "All in the Family", "The Mary Tyler Moore Show", "Sanford and Son" and various other shows  that we still see in reruns made their debus in the 1970's.

There were many different styles of music in this decade.  Disco dancing became popular with the release of the movie Saturday Night Fever.  Also, heavy metal rock music was born in the 70's. A popular heavy metal bands was Led Zeppelin; David Bowie was another heavy metal rocker.  In the late 1970's, a new rock movement, known as "punk rock" became the rage.

Conclusion

This may not have been the most memorable decade in or the century but from the one's lost in the Vietnam War to the ones hypnotized by the everlasting disco dancing this decade will stay in our lives forever like the "fun", pet rocks, the classic TV shows, and the very interesting fads.
