Daily Life

A soldier's daily life

Because of all the neighboring peoples, who were enemies, walls were put around most the Israelites' towns.  Soldiers would stand by the walls attempting to keep out enemies.  Soldiers were armed with wooden shields and sharp wooden sticks.  They also had bows and arrows and wooden armor.

The change from being many tribes

The change occurred when the Philistines attacked and it became clear that they needed a form of government.  Now they had to be more than nomads and shepherds.  They branched out into farmers, soldiers, and other jobs.

The heat of Israel

It was very hot in Israel, and the people struggled to work.  They made Olive oil to rub on themselves to keep their skin from cracking.  They made tall pots with collars to keep the water cool.  After a while they developed small underground caves to keep water and food.  Eventually they expanded the caves and worked in them.

Kings

Religion in Canaan

The Canaanites secretly worshiped their own God. They continued to do so until David told them that only believing in the Jewish God would help them get luck for winning wars. The Jewish God was Yahwah.

Before Saul was king, the people of  Israel were mostly shepherds and nomads.  Several generations later when Solomon became king he expanded the land to help many forms of daily life.  He brought more jobs and he raised taxes to be able to buy more land and expand the kingdom.
