Nereid, a moon of Neptune was discovered in 1949 by astronomer Gerard Kuiper. It is one of the farthest moons from Neptune, with a distance of at maximum 1,353,600 kilometers (841,100 miles), and a minimum distance of 9,623,700 kilometers (5,980,200 miles). This high difference also makes Nereid's orbit the most eccentric in the solar system! It takes 360 days for it to complete one orbit around Neptune. Relative to Earth's moon, Nereid is also highly reflective, reflecting about 14 percent of the sunlight it receives and twice as reflective as Proteus, another moon of Neptune.
