MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT 2: Star-Spangled Super Star

Starting off another year on top, Beyonce Knowles is chosen to sing the national anthem at Superbowl XXXVIII. Knowles, who has accomplished a lot in her 22 years, has yet to sing for an audience of this magnitude. The "Crazy In Love" singer will be heard by 130 million viewers in the United States and over 800 million viewers worldwide. Beyonce, who is nominated for six Grammys, will make the trip back to her hometown in Houston, Texas, where the game will be held.

Although currently singing as a solo act, Beyonce remains a member of Destiny's Child, one of the biggest-selling female acts of all time. Destiny's Child has sold more than 33 million records worldwide. Among her many accomplishments, Beyonce became the first African-American woman and the second woman to receive the 2001 ASCAP Pop Songwriter of the Year Award.

Beyonce will go down in history with fellow Superbowl performers like Faith Hill and the Backstreet Boys for singing Francis Scott Key's patriotic poem. The Superbowl, which is often overshadowed by commercials, the half-time show, and celebrity appearances, will begin at 6 pm on February 1, 2004.
