WEEKLY NEWS 2: New Game to Celebrate Lewis and Clark

On Tuesday, January 14, 2003, West Dakota, Ltd. announced a new game. Because the bicentennial of the Lewis & Clark expedition will be occurring soon, the North Dakota based firm decided to create a board game based on this historical event. It will be called the Lewis & Clark Family Game.

The game will be the first offering in what will be a series of games under the "American History Games" brand. The new game will be introduced in a "First Edition" and be available to the general public during March, 2003. Four or eight players will compete to be the first to complete the journey west to the Pacific coast and back again to St. Louis. All of the challenges Lewis and Clark faced are a part of the game. The game will be fun to play, but it will also help teach about the famous journey that occurred 200 years ago.

Anyone can play, whether they have knowledge about the expedition or not. The more a person plays the game, the more they’ll learn about Lewis and Clark. The game includes a large board and lots of details.

West Dakota, Ltd. plans to introduce additional versions of the game, including a classroom edition due out in time for the 2003-04 school year. Electronic versions are also being developed. The traditional board game will be introduced first because more people are becoming interested in old fashioned forms of entertainment.
