AROUND THE WORLD 3: Malaysia Tracks Bigfoot

Malaysian Johor Chief Minister Abdul Ghani Athman announced that its southern state government will officially start looking for the mythological "Bigfoot" creature. Bigfoot is believed to be a large hairy beast with human features. The United States often refers to Bigfoot as "Sasquatch," while the areas surrounding the Himalayas refer to the creature as a "yetis."

Abdul Ghani told the Agence France-Presse (AFP)--a major wire news service--that "this is the first time the state is going to look into [Bigfoot] officially." Abdul Ghani told reporters that the state will use reports from those claiming to have seen Bigfoot to prove the existence of the creature.

Another Johor official is currently assembling teams to investigate the numerous sightings of Bigfoot during recent months. Johor is one of Malaysia's 13 states. The terrain is filled with jungle, of which the Endau-Rompin National Park is part. Sightings of irregularly large beasts are not uncommon there. Recently, workers have reported sighting two adult and one younger Bigfoot creature.

Environmentalist Vincent Chow is working with Johor officials on how to scientifically track the creature. "We are the first country in the world to openly welcome suggestions to study whether this creature exists or not," Chow said.
