MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT 2: World's Youngest Director
When he was only six-years-old, Kishan Shrikanth was so upset by the plight of the orphans he saw on city streets in his native India that he wrote a story about them. Now, only 10-years-old, he is making the story into a film.
Kishan completed filming last week and the film is due to be released in April 2006.
The film is called "Care of Footpath" because the slum children have no address other than the footpaths where they sleep. It tells the story of a child who inspires his friends by succeeding in school.
It looks set to earn Kishan--or Master Kishan as he is known--a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s youngest director. The fifth-grader has even managed to convince a number of top Indian actors to star in it, although he will take the lead role himself.
Master Kishan has already starred in 24 films, but this is his first attempt at directing. He learned how a film is made by questioning the directors and cameramen whenever he acted. He also read books in order to find out about the different camera angles that can make shots look narrow or wide.
But while the hero of his film decides to get an education, how does Kishan manage to keep up with his schoolwork? He’s confident he’ll pass all of his exams and told the BBC, "When I am absent my friends take notes and give them to me." It seems even 10-year-old movie directors can’t get out of exams.
