AROUND THE WORLD 1: Singapore Film Program
Filmmakers in Singapore are getting a boost from the country's Media Development Authority (MDA) and Digital Media Hub.
Films are a tremendous undertaking and, for small and new non-Hollywood filmmakers, getting started is incredibly difficult. Digital Media Hub--an organization developed by local filmmakers--will be teaming up with MDA for the next several years.
The hope is to encourage local talent to produce great films through the Film Incubator Programme (FIP). The program will offer eight aspiring filmmakers the opportunity to make a feature film on digital format.
The filmmakers will receive a budget of S$100,000 and be given 15 days to complete their project. At least five films are expected to be funded annually.
Two films--"S11" directed by Joshua Chiang and "Unarmed Combat" produced by Lau Chee Nien--are already completed. FIP says the films should be released later this year. Producers and filmmakers are also planning on releasing the films in the European and Australian markets.
Currently, MDA has financed over 25 projects in television, film and digital media, and training for more than 3,000 media professionals and students.
