MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT 1: ‘Idol’ Judges Get Moody
Simon Cowell is no longer the only judge to criticize the contestants on American Idol. This past week, Randy Jackson was a bit moody and even Paula Abdul got a little snippy. This behavior has actually become a trend seen over past episodes and seasons of American Idol. At times the judges seem to get moody with each other and the contestants.
Randy Jackson’s critical comments were to Anthony Federov. He said, “That definitely sounded like I was in a bad hotel.” He also had several biting comments for other contestants.
Paula Abdul called Carrie Underwood’s performance “…very safe and boring.”
The biggest criticism was directed at Nikko Smith, son of St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith. The comments came from Simon Cowell. It’s possible that the criticism for Nikko stemmed from the fact that he returned after Mario Vazquez quit for unknown reasons. There are several rumors circulating about why Mario quit the show, including that he didn’t want to be labeled as an American Idol alum for his singing career.
It seemed like none of the performers came out of the episode unscathed after they performed pop hits from the 60s. A few of them were able to garner some good reviews, but for the most part it was a letdown for the contestants.
Despite the moodiness of the judges, American Idol is still going strong. It’s still garnering great ratings and seems to be very popular.
