WEEKLY NEWS 4: Independent MP3 Players
A technology company has created a new MP3 player which will allow people to download music without a computer.
From jazz and country to hip-hop and rock, many will be able to download their favorite songs straight to their portable players. According to its Web site, MusicGremlin will allow listeners to have a “record store” in their pockets and in handheld MP3 downloadable contraptions.
Through a network-based service called Wi-Fi, MusicGremlin said the new devices would give listeners who subscribed to the service the opportunity to browse and purchase songs from a catalog. That catalog would have music from both major and independent labels. The selections would then be downloaded directly to the player.
The Web site said once the player is hooked up to the Wi-Fi network, music will be “downloaded immediately.”
For those who travel outside the Wi-Fi service or become disconnected, MusicGremlin said they will still be able to listen to and browse through music titles.
MusicGremlin is the first company to announce such a development. The company plans to have its direct-to-device software ready by the end of this year.
