AROUND THE WORLD 1: Photographic Census in Spain
Bordering the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, Spain is known to have a long history as a seafaring country. Now, as one of the world’s largest fishing fleets, Spain plans to launch a massive photographic census of their fishing vessels.
The hope is to find ways of developing their fishing industry. For the project to work, Spain must have the cooperation of the autonomous regions within their borders, the representative organizations in the industry and non-government organizations (NGOs) interested in the fishing industry.
The photo census will take a count of the number of vessels and their sizes, the different types of gear available on the vessels, how far out to sea the vessels travel, and the available fish population.
