PICTURE OF THE WEEK: BlazeSports America Announces New Cities

BlazeSports America(sm) (BSA) today announced the selection of seven additional cities to its national community-based sports program for persons with physical disabilities. BlazeSports America, with the additional programs, now provides 49 programs in 25 states and the District of Columbia. BlazeSports America provides sports and physical activity programs for youth and adults with physical disabilities, including wheelchair users, persons with neurological disabilities, persons with visual disabilities and persons with amputation.

The 2006 BlazeSports America Clubs are located in: Anchorage, Alaska; Sacramento, California; Albany, Georgia; Topeka, Kansas; Pineville, Louisiana; Waterford, Michigan and Hamburg, New York.

BSA offers a year round program of community sports instruction, camps, sports clinics, competitions and coaches training through its community programs. Sports offered through the program currently include wheelchair tennis, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, track and field and swimming--all sports practiced by both disabled and non-disabled athletes and on the program of the Summer Paralympic Games. The program also includes selected winter Paralympic sports in communities where this is appropriate. In addition to the year round community-based programs, BlazeSports delivers the annual National Disability Sports Conference.

BSA is the legacy of the 1996 Atlanta Paralympic Games, and this year celebrates a decade of offering sports for children and adults with physical disabilities.

Presenting Partner of BlazeSports America is The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). NRPA represents 6,000 municipal and county recreation and park services throughout the United States. Other national program partners include the United States Tennis Association and the National Youth Coaches Association. Serving as a Strategic Partner to the program is U.S. Paralympics.
