MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT 1: 2004 MTV Movie Awards
Have you ever heard about the year's Oscar nominations and wondered, "Who picked these movies?" "The Return of the King" and "Finding Nemo" were winners that everyone could agree on in 2004, but there are always many movies that the critics loved that are pretty much unknown. What's your average moviegoer to do?
Enter the MTV Movie Awards. For thirteen years, they've been taking the year's movies a little less seriously than other award shows, and giving movie fans what they want. Upset that comedies never win Oscars? Never fear, they can take home a golden popcorn box from MTV. Tired of make-up and sound effects awards? Then Best Kiss, Best Dance Sequence, and Best Villain might catch your attention.
This year, "Pirates of the Caribbean" leads the nominations with six for Best Movie, Best Male Performance and Best Comedic Performance (Johnny Depp), Best On-screen Team (Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom), Breakthrough Female (Keira Knightley), and Best Villain (Geoffrey Rush). The other Best Movie nominees are "50 First Dates," "Finding Nemo," "Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King," and "X2: X-Men United." "X2: X-Men United" and "50 First Dates" were just behind "Pirates" with four nominations each for everything from Best On-screen Team to Best Fight.
The 2004 MTV Movie Awards will be taped June 5 and shown on TV June 10.
