MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT 3: Earnhardt Foundation & Forests
On Thursday, April 29, 2004, The Dale Earnhardt Foundation and American Forests announced their new partnership. The Foundation plans to help American Forests plant 77,000 trees to restore forests that have been damaged by storm, disease and development.
The announcement was made during the celebration of the third annual Dale Earnhardt Day, which is also Earnhardt's birthday. Coincidentally, it is also Arbor Day, a nationally celebrated day that encourages people to plant and care for trees. To symbolize Earnhardt's seven Winston Cup victories, seven trees were planted.
Earnhardt was known for his commitment to the conservation of natural resources. He tried to education today's youth about the importance of environmental preservation.
The first phase of American Forest's plan will begin in North Carolina. About 77,000 trees will be planted along major roads. As more money becomes available, more trees will be planted in each of the 19 Winston Cup states where Earnhardt raced. The program will do a lot more than just plant trees, too. The local community will be able to get involved and learn more about environmental issues.
American Forest helps improve lives and neighborhoods by planting trees and teaching about environmental restoration. The organization works with local groups to try and teach communities how to maintain a healthy ecosystem.
