AROUND THE WORLD 4: International Film Festival in India
Kolkata, India, is expected to become the location for Cine Central's children's film festival starting May 23, 2005. Cine Central represents India's most prominent film club and they are organizing the event. The festival will include 16 popular films.
Children attending the screenings can expect to be dazzled by Oscar-winning actresses such as Shabena Azmi-starrer Makdee of India, as well as many other celebrated actors and directors.
Although the festival is set in India, films from all over the international community will be showcased.
Malaysia, France, Spain, Russia, USA, India, China, Czech Republic and Israel have all have submitted film entries. One of the goals of the film organizers is to present a varied palette of films for all tastes and ages.
Kolkata, also known as "the city of joy," continues to be regarded as India's cultural capital. The city stretches along the Hoogly River, a branch of the Ganges, and is considered a huge metropolis. Several languages are spoken there including English, Hindi and Bengali. Most of the films will include subtitles in Bengali, one of the major languages.
Celebrated filmmaker Satyjit Ray's "In the country of the Diamond King" will be featured in the festival. He is one of India's best known artists in the film industry.
