MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT 1: “Pants” Travel to a Theater Near You

The jeans in Ann Brashares’ best-selling novel are worn, dirty and speckled with bleach, but they’re bound to make a sparkling debut when “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” opens in theaters nationwide on June 1, 2005.

The big-screen version of the very popular book for young adults centers around four lifelong girlfriends and a very special pair of jeans they find at the thrift store. The jeans are magical--they seem to fit and flatter all of the girls perfectly, though they are of very different shapes, sizes and personalities.

As the friends plan to go their separate ways for the summer, they realize these jeans are meant to be shared. They decide to take turns with the pants, each girl wearing them for one week before mailing them on to the next. After holding a mock ceremony and creating a list of rules (including “never wash the pants”), their “sisterhood” is formed.

The film stars Amber Tamblyn (Joan of Arcadia, The Ring) as the rebellious Tibby, America Ferrera (Real Women Have Curves) as the introspective Carmen, Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls) as gifted artist Lena, and newcomer Blake Lively as super-star athlete Bridget. Rounding out the cast are Bradley Whitford, Nancy Travis, Rachel Ticotin and Jenna Boyd.

“The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” is rated PG. Fans can visit www.sisterhoodofthetravelingpants.warnerbros.com for clips and downloadable posters, buddy icons and screen wallpapers.
