MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT 2: E3 Happenings
This was the week of the E3 convention, or the Electronic Entertainment Expo. It’s a big convention in the video game market, where new games are previewed, new systems displayed and reviewed, and where companies try to build hype about their products. The big three companies looking to make an impact at this convention are Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo. They are the three major competing manufacturers of home console games with the Xbox, Playstaion 2, and Game Cube respectively.
Microsoft showed off their new Xbox 360. They had already released a lot of information about the machine in the weeks leading up to E3. Many of the new games were revealed. The Xbox 360 will continue the tradition of online gaming.
Not much information is available for the next generation of the Sony Playstation. Sony’s Playstation has been the biggest seller of the three major consoles, starting with the Playstation and then followed by the Playstation 2.
The surprise of the E3 convention may have been Nintendo. Their next console, called Revolution, was discussed during a press conference. The biggest news is that it will be backward compatible with the current Nintendo Gamecube. Not only that, but it will have online capabilities and have a hard drive so that a gamer can go online and download games from previous systems, including the Nintendo 64, Super NES and the original NES system.
The big news for the games was the new Zelda game. It will be for the Gamecube and it continues the Link series. For this round in the series, Link is older and is trying to reach a more adult audience, which is a slight change from the former Wind Walker Gamecube game.
