MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT 1: Idol Runner-Up Secures Deal

In the highest rated “American Idol” finale on Fox two weeks ago, viewers saw 22-year-old and California native, Katharine McPhee, lose the competition to Taylor Hicks. During the show, both McPhee and Hicks were awarded Ford Mustangs. As winner of "American Idol," Hicks’ future as a recording artist was secured with a record deal.

McPhee has recently signed a recording deal with Clive Davis’s RCA and 19 Recordings Unlimited, a label managed by “American Idol” creator, Simon Fuller. The single off McPhee’s first album has been rumored not to be her finale song, “My Destiny,” but instead her rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” also sung during the finale. Her single is expected out on June 27, 2006.

Taylor Hicks recently signed with Arista Records. His first single will be released June 13, 2006, and it will be his finale song, “Do I Make you Proud.”
