WEEKLY NEWS 2: New Ways To Protect Your Skin

Many studies have found that most sunscreen protection is ineffective when it comes to protecting against skin cancer. Researchers say that you don’t need to get sunburn to suffer from the sun's dangerous rays. Although most sunscreens do a good job filtering out ultraviolet rays that can cause sunburn, many sunbathers have a false sense of protection because they don't get burned. That false sense of protection keeps them out in the suns rays longer.

Although sunbathers may not suffer visibly from sunburn, they can be suffering from melanoma, or squamous or basal cell skin cancer--which are serious skin cancers caused by the excess of ultraviolet sun rays. Experts on skincare now say that the best sunscreen should include zinc oxide, titanium dioxide and avobenzone, which will protect against not only sunburn but also skin cancer. Creams that contain these ingredients should also be waterproof to ensure their effectiveness before and after you get out of the pool, and they should have a SPF of 30 or more.

Another way to ensure protection against harsh sun rays is to limit your time in the sun between the hours of 10AM and 4PM, when sunrays are known to be the strongest. If you are out between these hours, be sure to cover up your body’s most sensitive parts with a hat and sunglasses.

With the proper summer protection, you can enjoy all the fun that summer entails while also keeping your skin protected and your body healthy.
