AROUND THE WORLD 3: Dinosaur Graveyard in Germany

The largest collection of dinosaur fossils ever found in Germany has been unearthed by German scientists. This collection included dinosaur bones that might belong to previously unknown species.

The fossils were found during a two-year excavation of a 16-foot deep trench that is believed to be a prehistoric watering hole. Scientists believe the 130 million-year-old fragments of bones and teeth come from six different species. These bones might possibly be related to the Velociraptor and Deinonychus, as well as prehistoric tortoises and crocodiles.

"This is the largest discovery of its kind in Germany--you could call it a dinosaur graveyard," said Klaus-Peter Lanser of the Museum of Natural History in Muenster, Germany.

Dinosaur bones have been previously found in Germany, but this latest find is particularly unique because of the wide variety of bones found in the same area. The Muenster museum in western Germany put the fossils on show this week.
