SPORTS ZONE 1: ESPN--A Household Name
Parents are trying harder than ever to come up with unique names for their newborn children. In recent years, parents are turning to cars, food and even television networks for inspiration.
Chances are you've heard of ESPN. It's a cable network that features sports shows and events. Well, a 2-year-old boy from Texas is named ESPN Malachi McCall. A camera crew from ESPN--the network--will soon visit Texas to interview the family of the 2-year-old. The interview will air in September to celebrate the network’s 25th anniversary.
You might think the Texas boy is the only person named ESPN, but you'd be wrong! Actually, ESPN McCall is one of three known children in the U.S. named after the popular network.
In an effort to find unique names, parents have turned to Camry (a car), Timberland (a clothing manufacturer), and in 2000, five girls were named Disney. The name Disney stems from either the television network or the popular vacation spot.
