WEEKLY NEWS 1: Wounded Warrior Project
Three months ago the Soldier Ride National Tour began in California and traversed the country until it reached Montauk, New York, last week. The bikers, organized by the Wounded Warrior Project, visited many VA Hospitals where soldiers go to recover from their injuries. The Wounded Warrior Project shares a poignant message: whether or not you agree with the war in Iraq, Americans are still coming home injured and they need our support.
More than 4,000 miles from beginning to end, the cross country tour inspired many people. Several riders were soldiers from Iraq who have recovered from their wounds and now use hand-propelled bicycles. The Wounded Warrior Project helped many of these soldiers after they returned to America. Providing basic supplies, phone cards, CD players, counseling, and athletic competitions, the project made sure the soldiers were welcomed home and helped them cope with their injuries.
The Wounded Warrior Project organized the Soldier Ride National Tour to raise awareness in America for wounded soldiers. Many veterans from foreign wars joined the ride to show their support. Over 13,000 soldiers have been wounded in Iraq; their injuries include loss of sight, hearing, and loss of limb. The difficulties that face wounded soldiers are eased by the Wounded Warrior Project, which raises money to continue making a difference to our wounded soldiers.
