MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT 1: New Fantasy Movie
If you love fantasy stories about magic and excitement, you might be interested in a movie that was released in the United States in July. Called "Five Children and It," the movie stars Freddie Highmore of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," Eddie Izzard, a successful British comedian, and the work of the Jim Henson Creature Shop for the creation of the "It" puppet.
"Five Children and It" is based on a book by E. Nesbit. The movie follows a group of three brothers and two sisters sent to live with their uncle while their parents help with the war effort during World War I. Upon arriving at their uncle’s castle, after having walked from the train station because their uncle forgot what day it was, they are given a long list of rules and an even longer list of chores. Unimpressed with his new situation, one of the boys, Robert, goes snooping about and convinces his siblings to snoop with him. In the midst of their adventure they find a secret tunnel leading to a magical place and a very old, very cranky, sand-fairy who grants them wishes.
"Five Children and It" is a fantastic story the whole family can enjoy. This movie belongs with other classic fantasy movies such as "The Dark Crystal," "The Neverending Story," "Time Bandits," and "Ella Enchanted."
