MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT 1: A Freaky Switch

How would you feel if your Mom and you woke up one morning to discover that you had switched bodies, now instead of being a normal kid you are a parent with an actual job? That's exactly what happens in Disney's "Freaky Friday," a Mom and her daughter switch places: the moms personality is in the daughter's body and vice versa.

This "Freaky Friday" is not the same story as the original 1976 "Freaky Friday" starring Jodi Foster and Barbara Harris. In the original movie the two switched because they actually wished to switch lives, however, they find that each other's life is not as simple as they thought it to be.

Disney also produced a similar "Freaky Friday" movie, further building upon the theme of switching lives, "Wish Upon a Star." However, the movie never came out in theaters; alas, it was "made for tv" and only ran on the Disney Channel and on video. This production, entitled "Wish Upon a Star" was about two sisters, incredibly different from one another, wishing on a star that they could be the other sister. They wished this because one didn't like the way things were going in her life and the other because of the thriving need to be popular.

The 2003 "Freaky Friday" is very different from both the 1976 production and "Wish Upon a Star." Staring Lindsey Lohan as daughter Anna, and Jamie Lee Curtis as mother Tess, this new movie portrays a Mother and daughter who constantly fight, complaining that each does not understand the complexity of the others' life. Tess feels that Anna has it easy just going to school each day and hanging out with her friends, while Anna feels that her Mom has it easy being a parent and having the ability to boss her children around. Two days before her mom's wedding and her once in a life time concert at the House of Blues, Anna and her Mom switch places due to a nosey Chinese women's spell, consummated through fortune cookies, at a Chinese restaurant. The only way to switch them back is for them both to show an act of selfless love for each other.

I got to see "Freaky Friday" as a "sneak peak" at a local theater. The movie will be released August 6th everywhere. I felt that this was an amazing movie for children, teenagers, and adults, alike. With an outstanding cast and a comedic plot this movie is sure to have you at the edge of your seats, your stomach hurting from laughter.
