SPORTS ZONE 1: Notre Dame's New Season
Notre Dame has one of the most legendary football programs in all of college football. However, in recent years the team has had season after season of losing records. This season, with a new coach, Charlie Weis, Notre Dame hopes to turn things around and become a great team once again.
Charlie Weis was not a head coach last year. He was an offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots. The fact that he was in charge of calling the plays that helped lead the Patriots to consecutive titles made him a great choice for Notre Dame. With his play-calling skills and offensive work in the pros, he hopes to be able to get his new team a lot more touchdowns this year.
Also this year, Notre Dame finally has a veteran quarterback. Brady Quinn played the last two seasons. But after two tough losing seasons, things may be about to turn around. He has a lot of experience going into this season, and all of his major receivers are coming back as well. Quinn was voted team captain by his fellow teammates, a good sign that he is a strong leader both on and off the field. He also has a new coach's playbook to work with, and Charlie Weis had previously worked with Tom Brady, the best quarterback in the NFL. Weis is in some ways responsible for not only the Patriots success, but Tom Brady's as well. Weis has said that he sees similarities between the two quarterbacks.
With a seasoned quarterback, and a new coach fresh off a Super Bowl victory, Notre Dame may head into a winning season.
