MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT 1: MTV Music Video Awards

Tonight was the night of the exciting Video Music Awards presented by MTV. Each year MTV holds the VMA's in New York City, this year the awards was held at the Radio City Music Hall on Thursday, August 28th. Everyone in the business was in attendance, from female music artist Mary J. Blige to actor Ben Stiller. Not only were music artists there, but movie actors and actresses and other famous people were there to either present awards, receive awards, enjoy the show, or to join the show's host, Chris Rock from "Rush Hour", in comedy that was performed throughout the show.

This year's show opened with a bang with Britney Spears onstage dressed in a white brides dress, along with Christina Aguilera, also in a white brides dress. They were both singing Madonna's "Like a Virgin." Madonna then came out on the stage dressed in a stylish black tuxedo and sang "Hollywood." The three sang together while Britney and Christina took turns dancing with Madonna when all of a sudden all three of them shared a shocking kiss. Missy Elliot arrived onstage to add some rap to "Hollywood" and the four women closed the opening performance in unison. Madonna was the likely choice to open this year's show due to the fact that she opened for the very first VMA in 1983, in which she performed "Like a Virgin" in a white brides dress.

The very first award of the night was presented by music artist Ashanti and basketball star Cobie Bryant for the "Best Hip Hop Video." The nominees in the category were: Snoop Dogg, Missy Elliot, Nelly, Jay Z, and Busta Rhymes. The award for "Best Hip Hop Video" went to Missy Elliot for her song "Work It." She accepted the award in a white silver sequined spots cap and white and black sports tuxedo. She first thanked God and her mother, followed by MTV and the fans, last but not least she thanked the late Aaliyah who died earlier this year in a plane crash after recording a music video. This was Missy Elliot's first Moon Man MTV Video Music Award.

Throughout the night several people presented awards:

-Terry Moore and Tony Hawk presented a performance by Good Charlotte

The last award presented by actor Adam Sandler and rap artist Snoop Dogg was the "Best Video of the Year" that went to Missy Elliot for her song "Work It." The 2003 Video Music Awards ended like it started with Missy Elliot accepting a MTV Moon Man and thanking all that helped her on the video, made her who she is, and those that she loves. The very last performance was performed by the hard metal rock band Metallica who played various songs from different genres that ranged from "Teen Spirit" to "Whip It" along with their own music.

The 2003 VMA's were amazing and shocking! Justin Timberlake walked away with the most awards, 3 out of the 5 he was nominated for. Many artists came in second taking home 2 awards each such as Beyonce and Missy Elliot. This years VMA will be remembered for many different reasons that main reason being that it was the 20th anniversary of the very first MTV Video Music Awards. If you missed the 2003 Video Music Awards, don't fret, re-runs of tonight's live show will be aired on MTV throughout this weekend and the upcoming week.
