MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT 1: Another Comic Book is making its way to the Big Screen
It seems that "X-Men" and "Superman" aren't the only comic book franchises to hit the big screen. According to a July 21, 2006 article in "Variety," "Warner Brothers Pictures is giving new life to DC Comics cult favorite 'Doom Patrol,' about a band of superheroes with freakish powers…Characters include 'Elasti-Girl,' 'Negative Man,' and 'Robotman.'"". The comic is often compared to Marvel comic "X-Men," which has made millions through its big screen blockbusters, "X-Men,," "X2," and "X-Men: The Last Stand."
Adam Turner has been tapped to write the screenplay and Akiva Goldman will produce the film with his Warners-based Weed Pictures. "Doom Patrol" has similarities to "X-Men," such as "Doom Patrol" is also led by a wheelchair-user. The series, created by Bob Haney, Arnold Drake and Bruno Premiami ceased in 1968 because if failed to gain a public but DC has revived the several times thus culminating in a more sinister comic than "X-Men."
According to an Aug. 14, 2006 article on boxofficereports.com, the movie will be released sometime in 2008, "The series returned briefly in 1977, 2001 and 2004. During the 80s, the comic had frequent re-boots instead of cancellations. At this point, main characters would be introduced and sent along their way." "These are some of the most original, offbeat comic book characters we have ever come across." Goldsman told "Daily Variety."
