On September 9, 1890, Colonel Harland Sanders was born. Sanders developed the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant chain. Known as KFC worldwide, the fast food restaurant is known for its "finger lickin' good" fried chicken.



On September 9, 1971, prisoners rioted and took control of Attica Correctional Facility, a prison for the worst of criminals. They held 39 prison guards and employees hostage for four days. The police ended the riot in a terrible raid that led to the death of 10 hostages and 29 convicts.



On September 10, 1608, English adventurer John Smith was elected council president of Jamestown, Virginia. Jamestown was the first permanent English Settlement in North America. In 1609, Smith was injured and forced to return to England.
