MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT 1: Geffen and DIC host a Slumber Party

Geffen Records and DIC Entertainment are joining forces to conquer the tween and teen musical market by partnering up to host a music-based slumber party.

According to an Aug. 1, 2006 article in "Variety", The two are creating entertainment brand SPG, Cornerstone act is the Slumber Party Girls, who will host the Eye web's new kids' programming block, KOL's Secret Slumber Party on CBS. Net launches the block Sept. 16th But the fun doesn't stop there; the musical group will be the chosen band of the new dance competition series, 'Dance Revolution'. They will appear on 26 half-hour episodes of the show and will perform original music.

According to an Aug. 2, 2006 post on http://www.digitalmusicnews.com, the band is a, hand-picked music group, a multi-talented, multi-ethnic ensemble. Ron Fair, chairman of Geffen Records and President of A&M/Interscope Records along with Stefanie Ridel, former member of the 90s pop group "Wild Orchid" will produce "Dance Revolution". In addition to the series, the group released their debut single on iTunes and AOL's KOL web site in August. When asked about why such a forcible movement in this arena, Fair conveyed his belief that the tween and teen market "has gone underserved by the music industry".

The "Variety" article also mentions that Dance Revolution, and the Slumber Party Girls is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg for the new brand. "The SPG brand will launch across multiple platforms, including music, television, online and mobile, with a subsequent rollout of a consumer products program and a motion picture release."

Fair contends such an undertaking is the first step in a new revolution for young people living in the ever developing world of cyberspace, "I believe we are creating a model for a unique form of entertainment that raises the bar aesthetically for smart and savvy tweens growing up in the digital age."
