SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY 1: Launching Windows Vista
Microsoft Corporation is preparing to launch its next Windows upgrade with Windows Vista. The Vista platform will eventually replace the current Windows XP.
While most companies around the world start looking into how the new operating system will affect software compatibility, companies in Latvia are pausing to laugh at the name. "Vista" is the Latvian word for fowl. "Vista" is also used as a slang for frumpy woman.
Although unintentional, Microsoft Vista is giving IT professionals in Latvia a good chuckle. Some IT managers are already experiencing spontaneous outbursts by staff during meeting concerning the new operating system.
Windows Vista will be available for major business corporations in November and for individual consumers next year. Latvia is located in the Baltics and gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.
