On September 15, 1898 William Burroughs died. Burroughs was the young man who invented the calculator. In 1892, he patented the first adding machine. Burroughs founded the American Arithmomter Company of St. Louis, which later became Burroughs Adding Machine Company. Burroughs' company eventually became a great success.



On September 16, 1620, the ship known as the Mayflower left England and headed for the New World. With 102 passengers on board, the Mayflower sailed toward Virginia. Bad weather and mapping mistakes sent the boat off course. On November 21, the Mayflower landed at Massachusetts. The Pilgrims on board founded the first permanent Europena settlement in New England.



On September 17, 1978, papers known as the Camp David Accords were signed. The president of Egypt and the Prime Minister of Israel signed the Camp David Accords, agreeing to stop fighting. Egypt and Israel had been fighting for 30 years. Over almost two weeks of talking at the retreat known as Camp David in Maryland, Egyptian President Anwar el-Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin agreed to peace.
