AROUND THE WORLD 1: Restrictions on flights Llifted
Air passengers flying from the UK will be allowed to take liquids on board in their hand luggage from November, according to airport officials. A ban on passengers taking such items on board was introduced in August when an alleged plot to blow-up a number of flights to the US was unearthed.
A new European-wide agreement, to be approved next week, will allow 100ml liquid containers to be carried on board in clear plastic bags. Toothpaste will also be allowed to be carried on-board. This is an improvement on the situation in August when all carry-on bags were banned causing huge lines and numerous flight delays and cancellations.
Since the tightening of restrictions, passengers leaving the UK for non-US destinations were allowed to carry on liquid products but only if these were purchased in stores after the security check. US officials introduced the same measure last week. Currently, all flights to the US continue to have restrictions regarding liquids.
