German astronomer Johann Gottfried Galle discovered Neptune on September 23, 1846. Neptune is the eighth planet from the sun.



On September 24, 1906, President Theodore Roosevelt signed a bill designating the first national monument in the United States of America. The monument was named Devils Tower, and it was a natural rock formation. Devils Tower was located in the Black Hills of Wyoming and was a huge column of volcanic rock that rose 865 feet above its base. Its base was 1,700 feet in diameter!



Have you ever heard of the Peace Corps? The Peace Corps is a government-funded volunteer organization created to fight hunger, disease, illiteracy, poverty, and lack of opportunity all around the world. President John F. Kennedy officially established the Peace Corps by signing a congressional act on September 22, 1961.
