PICTURE OF THE WEEK: Bisquick Celebrates 75 Years

Seventy-five years ago, a sales executive named Carl Smith stumbled onto a train porter's mixture for biscuits that could be prepared at a moment's notice. This "marvelous new food invention," as it was called, would soon allow just about anyone to easily and quickly make recipes like pancakes. It seems outdated today, but back in 1941, the slogan was "so simple, even a husband can do it."

Pancakes have grown in popularity over the years and now there's an even easier version where you just add water, pour on a griddle and you have pancakes with almost no clean-up. Come the 1970s, people started using Bisquick in pies by mixing it with eggs and milk in a pie pan.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the one product that changed the way America cooks.
