WEEKLY NEWS 1: AutismLink, Taco Bell to Present Tracking Bracelets to Families

AutismLink, a national autism information and support organization based in Pittsburgh, and several area Taco Bell restaurants will present project lifesaver bracelets to several local families of children with autism on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 2 p.m. at the Fox Chapel Taco Bell restaurant on Freeport Rd. in Pittsburgh.

Several area restaurants helped raise the money to purchase tracking bracelets for children with autism who run or are unaware of safety issues. The bracelets will be presented by several Taco Bell employees.

"These bracelets save lives," said AutismLink Director Cindy Waeltermann, "We're so happy to be able to provide them to local families who need them. Parents can now rest assured that these children will be safe. This is what we do -- AutismLink helps families in need."

The bracelets, provided by the Western Pennsylvania Search and Rescue Development Center, use a transmitter that emits a signal allowing search and rescue teams to find missing children.

"We are very excited that our charity fundraising event went so well for us this year because autism has affected my family as well," said Taco Bell General Manager Bobbi Anderson. "All team members were excited about selling the bracelets and helping these kids. We had a ton of customers who had children with autism who were very appreciative."
