WEEKLY NEWS 1: World's Largest Toliet Paper Cake
On Wednesday, October 2, 2002, Georgia-Pacific, the makers of Quilted Northern bathroom tissue, announced that it would be celebrating the brand’s 100th anniversary. Part of the celebration will include a giant cake made from rolls of toilet paper!
The cake is 8 feet in diameter and made of 2,100 rolls of Quilted Northern toilet paper. That’s a lot of rolls! In fact, it’s enough to last a family of four for more than 10 years! The cake will be paraded around a Ronald McDonald House in Chicago, Illinois.
Ronald McDonald Houses are non-profit charities that helps to improve the health and well being of children. They sponsor all types of programs, including scholarships and health care. They also have rooms in hospitals where families can freshen up, relax or rest.
After the cake is paraded around the house in Chicago, Georgia-Pacific plans to donate another 2,100 rolls of toilet paper to the charity. They will also donate 147 mini quilts, which is enough so that each Ronald McDonald House in the country can have one.
Georgia-Pacific makes many different products, including paper, tissue and chemicals. They have headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia and sell more than $25 billion worth of products annually. They started a relationship with Ronald McDonald House Charities in 1999. At that time Georgia-Pacific began donating bath tissue, paper towels, napkins, facial tissue and copier paper to the charity. They also plan to donate $100,000 to the Ronald McDonald House Charities this year.
