WEEKLY NEWS 3: Tooth Fairy Helps Hurricane Victims

In South Dakota, an 8-year-old girl lost her tooth and turned it into an opportunity to help others. Briton Nordemeyer, from the city of Brandon, decided to donate her money from the Tooth Fairy to hurricane victims. She mailed her tooth along with a letter in an envelope to the Sioux Falls Red Cross chapter, in hopes that the Tooth Fairy would leave the money with the Red Cross. Although her tooth fell out of the envelope, her letter made it to the organization.

Briton told KELO-TV of Sioux Falls that she wanted to help the children who had lost all their possessions in the hurricane. "It's really nice to help them get new food, homes, schools, toys, lots of stuff to help them,” Briton told the television station. In fact, Briton’s generosity paid off when the Red Cross received a check for $500 from an anonymous donor after word of her generosity spread.

Jeff Stingly, director of the Sioux Falls Red Cross chapter, told the Associated Press that the $500 anonymous check was the only one that mentioned the tooth, but he believes Briton's story prompted other donations to the chapter.
