PICTURE OF THE WEEK: Dinner in Bed
Do you usually eat your evening meal at the dinner table? Recently, some U.S. restaurants have changed the way we eat our meals. They're serving dinner in bed! Instead of pulling up a chair to the table, you pull up the sheets for an unusual dining experience.
People all over the world have different ideas of dinner tables. In some Asian countries, the table is low and diners sit on a cushion-covered floor. Americans and Europeans are accustomed to higher tables with chairs. The newest craze, which can be found in restaurants in Miami and New York, has people reclining on a bed while eating dinner. These beds are luxurious and much more comfortable than chairs.
Although it may seem very difficult to eat food in bed, the menus feature pre-cut food to make "bed dining" easier. You don’t even have to worry about spilling your food because some restaurants can change the bed sheets in 35 seconds. That's fast!
To cut down on spills, these new restaurants have also eliminated soups and messy pasta with sauce. Menus aside, many people believe eating in bed is the newest, most relaxing way to dine. In fact, it could be called one of the oldest ways to dine because ancient Romans often ate while reclining in bed--and that was over 2,000 years ago!
