WEEKLY NEWS 2: Dog Attacks Girl, Citations Looming
If a Nedra Ware can prove that her son owns a dog that attacked a 10-year-old-girl in Clayton County, GA, Ware can avoid being ticketed in the case, police said.
Ware, a Clayton County School Board Chairman, was initially cited in the case, but she reported to the county animal control shelter that the animal was owned by her son, Ryan Ware.
Ryan Ware, 20, had until noon Wednesday, October 27 to present proof of ownership to police and show documents that the dog has had proper vaccinations, said Capt. Jeff Tirner, a Clayton County police spokesman.
Police had issued tickets in Nedra’s name for having a dog without a tag, having a dog running loose and having an animal creating a nuisance.
Erica Thomas, the girl attacked by the dog, had a rabies shot Tuesday and is recuperating from the injuries at her home.
"She's hanging in there," said Melanie Beasley, her grandmother. "She's having nightmares real bad."
The dog bit Erica six to eight times on her left arm after forcing her from her bike as she rode through the Creekridge Circle neighborhood in Riverdale, police said. She also suffered leg injuries in the attack.
Police said neighbors used a stick to force the dog to return to the Wares' yard.
The dog is in animal control custody under a 10-day quarantine. (contributing: ajc.com)
