MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT 1: Music Hall Strike
On Wednesday, November 2, 2005, the musicians at the famous Radio City Music Hall went on strike the day before their big show was scheduled to open. The music hall, located in New York City, was preparing for “Christmas Spectacular,” which is their biggest show of the year.
The music hall’s Christmas show is famous for its holiday spirit. It includes music, singing, and dancing performed by the famous Rockettes. Although the Rockettes are said to be supporting the musicians’ strike, they will still perform in the “Christmas Spectacular” this season. The orchestra of musicians is reportedly striking because of problems with their contracts and their dissatisfaction with their salary and benefits.
In a statement issued by Radio City, they say the entire show will still go on but, instead of live musicians, a prerecorded musical score will accompany the singing and dancing. The show has been performed for more than seventy years, and tickets can be as expensive as $250.
