MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT 1: Grammy Nominations Announced
On Thursday, December 8, 2005, nominations for next year’s Grammys were announced. Pop-singer Mariah Carey has the lead. She was nominated for eight Grammy awards, including Album of the Year for her best-selling record “The Emancipation of Mimi,” and Song and Record of the Year for her song “We Belong Together.” Although Carey was popular already, her latest album boosted her career tremendously. It sold more than four million copies, making it the number two best-selling album of the year.
Along with Carey, John Legend and Kanye West also received eight nominations. Legend’s nominations include Best New Artist, while West received nominations for Album and Song of the Year.
Other nominees include U2, which was nominated for five awards, 50 Cent, Gwen Stefani, and Bruce Springsteen. Springsteen received a nomination for Song of the Year, but will have tough competition against Carey, Legend, U2, and pop-country band, Rascal Flatts.
The Grammy ceremony will be in Los Angeles on February 8, 2006.
