AROUND THE WORLD 1: Stuck in the Cold

Australian adventure seeker, Jon Johanson, is stuck in the cold on the Antarctic. The man was set out to be the first human to fly solo in a fixed-wing aircraft over the South Pole. Taking off from New Zealand, Johanson met with wind problems and had to land at the US Army Antarctic Base. Unfortunately for Johanson, the army officials will not give or sell him oil to return back to New Zealand.

Army officials reasoning for not selling the oil to Johanson is to discourage adventurers or tourists from coming to the Antarctic. They did offer Johanson a flight out but not his plane, which Johanson is reluctant to leave without. The New Zealand government is offering a military flight out of the Antarctic as well as shipping his aircraft back to New Zealand.

Johanson is staying overnight in the US Army Antarctic Base refueling shed and has been given food by the army officials there.
