SPORTS ZONE 1: Triathlon Training

The athletes at www.triathlontraining.net are picking up the pace to get ready for the 2006 Triathlon Season.

The Triathlon Training Blog gained some Internet prominence last spring as they began on their quest to compete in their first sprint distance triathlon and to raise money for charity.

After competing in the Old Hickory Lake Triathlon in September, the group donated almost $700 to a Sacramento family that was struggling with the financial hardships associated with long term cancer treatment. Never satisfied, the group continued on, and is now looking towards a season of 3-4 races, with high hopes of continuing their charitable ways while creating a top online resource for triathlon information.

When asked about the group’s efforts, Scott Randolph, site administrator, had this to say: “We knew even after the first few weeks that we stood to gain so much personally from this process, that we had to try to give something back as well. We went from out of shape 9-5ers to full blown athletes over the course of the process, and we are really hoping that this summer will show that we are moving into the competitive ranks along with doing a lot to help out our fellow man.”

Their site, Triathlon Training Logs (www.triathlontraining.net), has a lot to offer beginning triathletes, and is a deeply personal chronicle of their journeys. The group plans to announce the charities they will be raising money for in the near future.

Probably most importantly, the site offers the team a way to stay in touch and accountable for their efforts, since the group is spread from Nashville to Kansas City, with some members based in Memphis and Murray, Kentucky.
