PICTURE OF THE WEEK

"GOOD GRIEF"

Many of you are familiar with the comic strip characters Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus, and Lucy. Charles Schulz brought this Peanuts Gang to life on October 2, 1950. For fifty years, the "Peanuts" comic strip has been entertaining readers of all ages!

On January 3, 2000, Charles Schulz printed his last "Peanuts" comic strip in a weekday paper. He is retiring the very popular comic strip! The last new "Peanuts" comic strip to be printed in a weekend paper will be February 13, 2000. Our "Picture of the Week" is in honor of the fifty years that the Peanuts Gang has made people smile!

Charles Schulz was hospitalized earlier this month after undergoing abdominal surgery. Schulz, who is 77 years old, was diagnosed with cancer at that time. Lorrie Myers, Schulz's secretary stated, "Right now he just wants to concentrate on being with his family and getting stronger and focusing on overcoming the cancer."

Over the years, "Peanuts" has become part of American life. It is also been popular around the world. Charlie Brown and his pals appear in more than 2,600 newspapers in 75 countries. This allows for millions of readers!

Many people will truly miss the Peanuts Gang, which has become a part of American culture. Thank you Charles Schulz for fifty years of wonderful entertainment!
