PICTURE OF THE WEEK

DAN MARINO

Dan Marino is arguably one of the best quarterbacks to ever play in the National Football League. His career ended this week when he announced plans to retire.

Marino was offered a one-year contract with the Minnesota Vikings to play another year. However, he chose to retire after pondering the offer.

Marino joined the NFL in 1983 after the Miami Dolphins drafted him. He has played the past 17 seasons in the Florida heat for the Dolphins. He enjoyed a Hall of Fame career with them, minus one small thing, a SuperBowl ring.

Marino played in only one SuperBowl his entire career. The game was against the San Francisco 49ers in 1985. Miami lost that game by a score of 38-16.

Marino was emotional at his press conference when he announced his retirement. He spoke about the disappointment of not winning a SuperBowl ring. He stated, "That is what I played for. That has been a dream of mine my whole career. I wanted to know, as a player, how it felt to win a SuperBowl."

Dan Marino is very well liked in Florida. He is not only respected as a great football player, but is also known for his charity work. He founded the Dan Marino Foundation, which helps young patients in need.

Dan Marino holds several NFL records. Here is a list of just a few:

1. Total yards passing: 61,361 yards.

2. Total passes attempted: 8,358.

3. Total passes completed: 4,967.

Marino expressed his gratitude for a tremendous career. He stated, "I can say that I have been blessed with a career greater than I could imagine. Most of all, I am going to miss Sunday afternoons."
