LEARN ABOUT J. K. ROWLING

Our "Picture of the Week" is of the author behind the Harry Potter series of books. Her name is Joanne Kathleen Rowling. She uses her initials on the Harry Potter books - J.K. Rowling. Her publisher initially convinced her to use just her initials for fear that boys would turn away from a book written by a woman named Joanne Kathleen.

Ms. Rowling is 34 years old who makes her home in Edinburgh, England with her daughter, Jessica.

Writing has always been a passion and a lifelong dream for Ms. Rowling. She actually wrote her first book titled RABBIT at age six.

The idea of a Harry Potter series came to her on a train journey from Manchester to London back in 1990. The first book took her about five years to write. There will be a total of seven books in the Harry Potter series when it is complete. Harry turned 11 in the first book, and he will progress one year with each book: one year for each year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Thank you, J.K. Rowling, for your creativity!
